As part of Generation Experience (a more optimistic label than Generation Rent by a mile), our lives appear to be carefully curated feeds filled with snaps of aspirational holidays and impossibly beautiful people. Channelling this hyperreal aesthetic for its new SS17 campaign is the sunglasses brand, Tens, with a lookbook and accompanying film that would look right at home in your section of saved #wanderlustgoals posts on Instagram. The soft filter applied to the visuals captured in Mexico and Tulum by photographer, Omar Coria, mimics the same warm glow the glasses’ lenses give, meaning the campaign’s look mirrors the way you see the world through Tens. Tens, founded by a trio of photographers, say that “the custom filter lens was developed to offer a warm uplifting view instead of a cold desaturated tint as found in regular sunglasses”. But it’s not all joy in Juno – the video questions the authenticity of our online aspirations, and speaks of a desire to connect with other people across the world. As model Solomon quotes his grandfather as saying in the film: “These are assumed ideas of happiness, they’re not rules. You’ve got to live life on your own terms.” Pledge to Tens through Kickstarter here, for a unique pair of sunglasses. Escape the algorithm!
