Fashion / NewsKanye West turns his Instagram into a tribute to MargielaThe rapper and designer floods his new account with images of past Margiela collectionsShareLink copied ✔️November 21, 2016FashionNewsTextTed Stansfield Last week Kanye West came out for one very unexpected political candidate: Donald Trump. Latest news today is that he may have cancelled the rest of his US tour dates. Not that you’d know if from his Instagram, though. Yesterday he flooded his newly active account with nearly 100 (99, to be precise) images of old Margiela collections, including shots of the brand’s infamous split-toe and perspex heel ankle boots, of models with their eyes covered (as is the house’s past tradition) as well as some of its lesser known designs. Prior to this, all Kanye had posted was a screenshot from 1990 sci-fi film Total Recall. We all know Kanye loves Margiela. As well as name dropping the brand in “Ni**as In Paris” and wearing its signature masks while performing, he’s been open about referencing the secretive house in his collections too. “You see Raf Simons right there, you see Helmut, you see Margiela, you see Vanessa (Beecroft), you see Katharine Hamnett,” he said in an interview with Style.com. “It’s blatantly right there.” As for the source of the images, it’s not clear – their small size suggests they may be from the Cream box, a 900+ page book published in 2008 to mark 20 years of Margiela which has a large lookbook selection. But what does this mean? Well, Kanye didn’t caption any of these images, so it’s hard to know for sure. However, it wouldn’t be ridiculous to assume that this is a moodboard for his next collection, Yeezy Season 5. Head below to see some of his posts. Escape the algorithm!
