Nicoll died in Sydney, Australia, where he had been working for the past year. According to The Daily Telegraph Australia, an ambulance was called to his apartment in King’s Cross in the early hours of Friday morning and he was taken to St Vincent’s hospital. It is understood that police are not treating the death as suspicious, but are yet to determine a cause. Nicoll, who graduated from Central Saint Martins MA Fashion course in 2002, was best known for his eponymous label which produced both menswear and womenswear. The designer showed at London Fashion Week for many years, until he shuttered his brand in 2015. During his career he worked as creative director of Parisian house Cerruti and did freelance design for Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs, in addition to designing a bridal range for Topshop. After closing his eponymous label Nicoll was appointed creative director of British brand Jack Wills – a job that he left last year. More recently, Nicoll accepted a job as a creative director of German sportswear giant adidas, which he was due to start in January. Our thoughts are with those who knew and loved him.
