Born in Belgium and based in Antwerp since his days at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts – where he initially pursued fashion, before feeling the pull of photography and switching course – Vanderperre has become known for his signature minimal aesthetic, forging ties with other creatives along the way. As a longtime collaborator of fellow Belgian Raf Simons, he’s shot campaigns for Dior and Simons’ eponymous label, and he’s been a regular contributor of Dazed for years – lensing models, musicians and drag queens alike. Red Hook Labs, meanwhile, uses its education-based ethos to encourage creativity. It recently hosted Jamie Hawkesworth’s inaugural exhibition that was five years in the making, featuring work spanning the photographer’s career in fashion photography. This show, which is titled Willy Vanderperre: Prints, films, posters and more will – as the name suggests – feature a range of over 50 of Vanderperre’s multimedia works, selected with the intention of connecting with the gallery’s young audience.
