Fashion / NewsJean Paul Gaultier to appear in Ab Fab movieThe designer will star in the upcoming ‘Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie’ alongside models Kate Moss and Cara DelevingneShareLink copied ✔️January 25, 2016FashionNewsText Ted Stansfield Though the release of Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie is five months away, the film has already been in the press. The film’s protagonists – fashion publicist Edina Monsoon (played by Jennifer Saunders) and magazine editor Patsy Stone (played by Joanna Lumley) – made a surprise appearance at the British Fashion Awards in December to present Stella McCartney with the Best British Brand award. The film has also been subject to accusations of “yellowface”, following the casting of Scottish actor Janette Tough in the role of a new “Japanese fashion designer” called Huki Muki. However, it has been in the press for its cameo line-up too, which includes models Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne and now, acclaimed fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier. Prior to this, Gaultier played himself in the French version of the Absolutely Fabulous movie, released in 2001. In this version, Gaultier will be joined by fellow designers Giles Deacon (who announced the closure of his ready-to-wear line today) and Anya Hindmarch who, according to WWD, described her role as “a dream come true” (though it’s also yet to be confirmed). As for the plot, the film follows Edina and Patsy who cause “a major incident at an uber fashionable launch party” and find themselves in a media firestorm as a result. Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie will be released in the UK on July 1. Escape the algorithm! Get The DropEmail address SIGN UP Get must-see stories direct to your inbox every weekday.
