Sigh. On the same day we report that Domenico Dolce has apologised the comments he made on IVF and gay families, another high-profile figure in fashion caused a PR storm. In an interview with the Mail on Sunday, Hervé Léger’s UK managing director Patrick Couderc said that “voluptuous” women with “very prominent hips and very flat chest” should avoid the brand, which is famed for its figure hugging bandage dresses.

The same, apparently, goes for gay women: “If you’re a committed lesbian and you are wearing trousers all your life, you won't want to buy a Leger dress,” he said. “Lesbians would want to be rather butch and leisurely.” Continuing in the same bigoted vein, he went on to express disgust for women who “display everything like you’re 23” and he never goes out to dinner with a woman if “she’s not wearing tights.”

Naturally Couderc’s remarks have been met with outrage on social media with people calling for a boycott of the bandage dress.

The brand is yet to comment.

UPDATE: Hervé Léger has announced that Patrick Couderc is no longer associated with the company. The brand has issued the following statement:

"The Herve Leger by Max Azria brand and its parent company, BCBGMAXAZRIA Group, are shocked and appalled by Patrick Couderc’s comments made in the Mail on Sunday. BCBGMAXAZRIA Group is working in concert with MJH Fashionthe London-based licensee of the Herve Leger brand, to investigate and establish appropriate next steps. The statements made by Mr. Couderc are not a reflection of Herve Leger by Max Azria or MJH Fashion ideals or sentiments.
