The Dazed cover star flew out to the fairytale setting of Tirol, Austria to sing at the Austrian jewellery empire's headquarters for Nadja Swarovski and her 500 guests from the world of fashion. Straight off the triumph of her London Roundhouse shows and decked out in a mesmerizing crystal-studded Rodarte dress, twigs raced through a set climaxing in "Two Weeks" in front of an audience that included Swarovski collaborators like Jean Paul Gaultier, Iris van Herpen, Mary Katrantzou and Peter Pilotto. The night wasn't just to celebrate Swarovski's historic heritage of collabs with designers both established and emerging – it was also to the opening of Kristallwelten. Part Swarovski archive, part thrill ride, it's best described as a cross between an amusement park and a cabinet of curiosities. Think Alice in Wonderland tunnels mirrored in reflective glass and a 20-metre high crystal-faceted play tower, with new artworks by Cao Parrot, Lee Bul, Tord Boontje and Fredrickson Stallard. "We wanted to perpetuate an artistic legacy, the sensitive selection and orchestration of new protagonists, and new stimuli of experimental fantasy surrounding the secret of sparkling crystal," Carla Rumler, Swarovski's cultural director and curator of the new Kristallwelten expansion, told us. In short, a world of wonder and mirrors, served with an extra edge of fantasy. No wonder FKA twigs was in town. Escape the algorithm!
