Homage to Edie: Taking inspiration from 70s cult documentary Grey Gardens, the collection referenced the eccentric style of Edith Bouvier Beale – otherwise known as “Little Edie” and cousin to former US First Lady Jackie Kennedy. Renowned for her heretical style, Little Edie’s influence could be felt in windswept silk head scarves, laden with brooches in jade green and punchy red. Traditional corset lacing bound the collection from beginning to end, constructing chiseled silhouettes and accenting garments. Perturbing sounds: Employing brooding, ominous instrumentals, the soundtrack to Hakaan’s AW15 collection combined shredding chords with high intensity synths. Opening the show came the dark rhythms of John Carpenter (the man responsible for some of cinema’s most unnerving scores – including Halloween and The Thing) as soaring piano keys and thundering organs swirled through the room.
