To celebrate 40 years of the Italian fashion house, Purple magazine founder Olivier Zahm has shot 22 Polaroids of 12 characters whose stories play out along different points of the city's cultural history. The scuzzy good ol' days of pre-Giuliani NYC are present in the form of Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon and punk-meets-fashion critic Glenn O'Brien, while newer voices like Mykki Blanco and photographer Sandy Kim point towards the future. The rest of the cast is a ragtag ensemble that epitomises New York in all its shapes and forms: former Virgins singer Donald Cumming and his partner; actresses Georgia Ford and Stella Schnabel; artists Olaf Breuning, Rita Ackermann and Jeanette Hayes; and finally, Dazed writer and Slutever blogger Karley Sciortino. Zahm also shot each character for a short film inspired by Warhol's silent, evocative Screen Tests.
