Formichetti collaborated with DJ extraordinaire Michel Gaubert to put together the genre-defying playlist, colliding drastically distant eras of music together by starting off the show with Mahler’s contemplative and classical “Symphony #5” and leading straight into the heavy-hitting trance beats of Truss’s “Ganymede.” “Music is influencing – very loudly – at Diesel,” Nicola Formichetti muses about this season, and it shows. Combining some of FW14's tunes with a new list of chosen tracks, this playlist reflects the rebellious, rock 'n’ roll nature of the collection as if through a musical mirror: some are as tough as the nail-studded leather jackets and some are as chopped-up and distressed as the frayed “bullethole” denim treatments seen in the collection. This is the new Diesel, drenched in the aesthetics and sounds of subculture only seen in grimy late night hideouts, punk clubs and rock music festivals. However, Formichetti enforces that the Diesel DNA is more about attitude and pushing boundaries than tribe aesthetics and music genres. “I'm constantly reshuffling my favourite music tracklist so that it evolves with me and the artists I discover. For now, this is the ultimate tracklist we had playing in the creative studio when working on the FW14 collection”.
