Initial reaction:

A thorough dissection of the flower, from the curvature of a petal worked into voluminous skirts to enlarged graphic prints that you immediately associate with Marni. From natural jute and plain muslin the show built up in a crescendo towards a floral explosion worked into print, woven jacquards, appliqué and embroidery. You could pick out daffodils, daisies, lilies and chrysanthemums – the most recognisable of blooms, abstracted into giant graphic arrangements for the Marni connoisseur.

Soundtrack:

A version of Alexandre Desplat's main theme for Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom. The right note of whimsy to go with Consuelo Castiglioni's troupe of twisted flower girls stomping in exaggerated Birkenstock-esque sandals and circular shaped heels.

Marni market:

Immediately after the show, guests could go and see Marni's Flower Market at the Rotonda Della Besana where Castiglioni and her team had created stalls selling special printed totes, gardening tools, bulbs, seeds and of course flowers aplenty, with profits going to the Vimala charity aiding disabled Tibetan children in India. Think Columbia Road mashed up with Marni's prints. It was the perfect respite on this final day of MFW.
