Jeremy Scott gives Longchamp a googly-eyed, gruesome twist

Here's a massive helping of the heebie-jeebies for Scott's update on Le Pliage ‘Madballs’ bag

Jeremy Scott’s Madball monsters continue their sartorial offensive on the new season with their latest takeover – it’s the designer’s new interpretation of Longchamp's iconic Le Pliage bag, and we’ve got the exclusive gifs to match.

Child of the 80s? Then you’ll be familiar with the pre-Furby, pre-Pokemon playground craze of Madballs: bouncy rubber balls with gruesome faces (yep). For Fall, the designer featured his favourite monster pals alongside fuzzy football jerseys and locker room leathers – a mainline collection that, in its subversive take on American nostalgia, stayed true to Scott’s knack for turning pop-culture heritage into fashionable cult classics.

The designer’s no stranger to turning fashion houses on their head. The Madballs takeover of Le Pliage is just the latest phase in Scott’s long-running collaboration with the French fashion house – the iconic foldable bag has previously been home to playful Scott prints from colourful computer keyboards to credit cards. And 2014, after all, has seen the launch of Scott’s biggest fashion coup yet – his first collection with Moschino, which saw some familiar golden arches get the chic Milanese treatment.

The limited edition Longchamp Le Pliage Madballs are now on sale in Longchamp stores everywhere – but for now you can get a taste of the Monster Mash-up with our ghoulish gifs.
