Fashion / Show3.1 Phillip Lim AW14Eighties cool brings ‘Soleil’ to NYFW, in suspender dresses, blue tights and sequinsShareLink copied ✔️February 11, 2014FashionShowText Katherine Bernard Photography Kathy Lo 3.1 Phillip Lim AW14 Initial reaction: A welcome departure from the realities of New York Fashion Week FW14: Phillip Lim's entire collection was inspired by a woman named Soleil – THE SUN – REMEMBER SUNSHINE? We don't either, but with 80s style lapels, wideleg pants and suspender dresses, the 3.1 Phillip Lim collection brought us to a welcome playful place. Set: Colorful translucent panels lined the runway, creating the effect of walking through a beach house with glass windows that let in the beautiful summer light from pinky dawn until blue dusk. Eyewear: Phillip Lim x Linda Farrow sunglasses may not be necessary in the dead of winter, but we'd wear them anyway. Hair: An update on the 80s bouffant--though, some of the gelled swoops looked a bit like Duckie from Pretty In Pink got his head dunked in the school bathroom by a bully. Swirly-chic? Eighties cool: Blue tights, sequins, a black-and-white composition book print and wide belts with geometric jewels on the front resurrected all our favorite, fun details from 80s fashion.
