Seriously glam frocks matter at haute couture, as the week kicked off with Versace's front row clientale applauding draped column gowns sprayed with chains of Swarovski crystals and a whole lotta leg. References: Donatella talked of goddesses and Grace Jones, and of course Lady Gaga, star of the current SS14 campaign, was the in the audience. Add glamour and Grecian drapes into the mix and you have a powerful set of inspirations to G this collection up to the Versace va-va-voom we know and love. Stand out looks: Juliana Schurlig in an unapologetically decadent white fox and mink coat worn with a mesh hood of chained crystal. Can a 21st century knight be swathed in Swarovski instead of metal? Gaga got first dibs on the look for dinner later that evening. Embroidered bugle beading made to look like the most intricately handcrafted geometric tattoos on black mesh also kicked off haute couture week nicely. How they wore it: Fresh faced new girls that normally look androgynous were vamped up and glammed up to the nines. Plus, the fact they were strutting along to a Lady Gaga medley they were all itching to sing along to, added attitude to the proceedings. After party: An “intimate” dinner, where Lady Gaga slowly transformed into Donatella in between starter and main course. For one night only, they were kindred sisters who seasoned industry folk couldn't get enough of. Mario Testino kept on whipping his camera out and Lady Gaga had a queue of Instagram selfle requests.
