Dean and Dan Caten take catwalking to the classroom in a Mert & Marcus directed film
DSquared2 twins Dean and Dan Caten know how to have fun. For their Autumn/Winter 12 campaign video the boys teamed up with Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott (whose first ever cover story was for Dazed), creating an ode to 60's teen rebellion, soundtracked by Shirley Ellis' 'The Clapping Song'.
Shot at east London's Ragged School Museum, models Benedikt Angerer, Simon Van Meervenne, Liuk Bass, Ralf Javoiss, Daphne Groeneveld, Frida Aasen and Bette Franke play up-to-no-good high-school students as Dean and Dan teach them a lesson that's definitely not on the curriculum. Dazed Digital caught up the boys...
Dazed Digital: How did you come up with the idea of the video?
Dean and Dan Caten: We thought if we had to be substitute teachers we’d better teach them something we know!
DD: How long have you been collaborating with Mert & Marcus?
Dean and Dan Caten: We have been shooting with Mert & Marcus for five seasons. They have amazing energy and are so much fun to work with.
DD: It looks like you had a lot of fun. Tell us some stories from the day!
Dean and Dan Caten: Fun was part of the game – to get the classroom out of control, just to get busted by the regular teacher in the end.
DD: What were you like at school?
Dean and Dan Caten: Definitely not the ones sitting at the front of the class!
DD: If you were a teacher today, what would be your subject?
Dean and Dan Caten: Life!
