Claire Drake’s beauty affirmations: ‘Never be afraid to be a hot mess’

Claire Drake has been posting online for years, and millions of us have been following along. The 21-year-old Toronto-based content creator is known for her comical videos where you can watch her playing Fortnite, thrifting or hanging out with fellow creators. “I feel most creative and inspired when I’m having fun with my friends,” she tells Dazed. These relationships are a big part of where Drake finds beauty. “I really believe that beauty starts from within. It’s about how you treat others, your energy, and the way you present yourself to the world.”

Below, she gives Dazed her monthly beauty recap, and shares her beauty affirmations.

What beauty routine have you leaned on the most this month?

Claire Drake: Taking care of my hair. I went on Accutane a few years ago, and it literally made all of my hair fall out, so my hair is now my prized possession.

What’s the one holy grail product you’ve been using this month?

Claire Drake: Josie Maran Vanilla Body Butter.

Who is your beauty icon?

Claire Drake: I recently saw a video of Betsey Johnson talking about ageing, and it really inspired me. She said, ‘80 doesn’t mean I can’t wear what I wore at 20,’ and I loved that. She’s so confident and just fully herself. She also said there’s a real need for weirdness, and I think that’s what makes someone beautiful, just owning who you are.

Claire Drake: Miu Miu Miutine.
