Chappell Roan’s beauty looks steal the show at Paris Fashion Week

All eyes have been on Chappell Roan this Paris Fashion Week as the pop it-girl tackled a stacked schedule for her debut season. Hard to miss, the rising star took front row for a circuit of shows, sporting her signature extravagant glam while sitting between the likes of Michèle Lamy, PinkPantheress, Ice Spice and Lucy Dacus.

Known for her bold beauty looks that pull from camp, drag and everything in between – think her full Statue of Liberty drag or her ‘Roan of Arc’ performance – Roan’s transformations throughout PFW did not disappoint. With make-up by Andrew Dahling and hair by Dom Forletta, Roan’s beauty looks have quickly become as anticipated as the shows themselves.

It started at the Rabanne AW25 on Thursday, where her bold cat eyes and dramatic make-up had fans comparing her to drag star GotMikk. That afternoon she turned up at Rick Owens sporting foggy contact lenses and outlandish black dotted make-up on top of her signature clown-ish white face paint base. At Matières Fécales, Roan embraced the underground spirit of the hosts, turning up with pink brows, freckles and messy plaits, while it was a slightly softer look for Yohji Yamamoto – blushed cheeks atop a porcelain-white base.

On Saturday at Ludovic de Saint Sernin, she channelled the part-time freelancer, part-time ketamine-kid look with bleached brows and heavy contour, followed swiftly by a New Romantic-esque look at Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood, where dark blue and black liner and a bold red lip added a punk edge to her appearance. At McQueen, Roan showed up sporting what looked to be nude pantyhose on her head, while at Valentino, she wore an extravagant ball gown from Alessandro Michele’s first couture collection for the house, which she paired with her signature curls and a surreal, doll-like make-up. 

As with all of Roan’s looks, what has been so exciting about her PFW make-up is its playfulness, the fearlessness when it comes to experimenting and trying out new things, and the commitment to the aesthetic even if it means not sticking to mainstream beauty rules. As Roan’s tour make-up artist, Ali Scharf, told Dazed, “She’s not afraid to be bold and maximalist. She loves to sometimes embody beauty in the traditional sense, but other times completely flip it around and be different, scary or weird. It shows a sense of vulnerability – she doesn’t take herself too seriously while also taking herself seriously as an artist.”
