Get a BTS look at the forest fairy beauty in Brooke Candy’s ‘Block’ video

Last week, Brooke Candy revealed the new video for her latest single, “Block”. Following singles “Pills” and “Safe Word”, the track is the latest release from her forthcoming album CANDYLAND. Taking a sugar-coated approach to pop, the track was written with longtime collaborator Charli XCX, 100 Gecs producer Dylan Brady, and A. G. Cook. 

Directed by Kyle England, the hyper-surreal video follows the tattooed Candy as she navigates cobwebbed forests and desolate rocky landscapes, and showcases her pole dancing in a red-smoke-filled room. Fitting into the mystical scenery, the star sports her signature glam – but with a hint of whimsical enchantment. “I was inspired by the atmosphere of the forest setup, so I wanted to create looks that felt whimsical but still had a sexy and street feel to compliment Brooke,” Anthony H. Nguyen, the make-up artist for the video, tells Dazed.

Nguyen handmade custom spidery bottom lashes and created a green eye look inspired by metallic beetles. On the lips and lids, he used an iridescent glossy shimmer “to catch the light perfectly like a lil’ fairy”, as he puts it, while the dewy complexion was created using Dieux Skin products including the Tattoo Forever Eye Mask and Instant Angel Moisturiser. “Creating looks with Brooke is always the most fun because everyone gets to channel their creative energy together on the spot to create some sick art,” says Nguyen.

In true Candy style, the star sports a vivid tangerine hair colour in the video. “It’s about channelling her energy and story,” says hairstylist Virginie Pineda, who describes creating the look for Candy as “pure adrenaline”. Throughout the video, the tattoo-studded star switches between a long hairstyle with bangs and a shorter, slick look. To bring it all to life, Pineda used the product Pop & Lock from the brand Color Wow. “Watching my work amplify her powerful message is a reminder that creativity shapes the world in the most vibrant ways.”
