Elliot Page shares a joyful photo in ‘first swim trunks’ after top surgery

The actor previously said that the transition surgery has been ‘life-saving’

Since coming out as transgender late last year, Elliot Page has been open about his journey, speaking candidly about the realities of being trans in 2020 and 2021, and sharing his experiences as a trans man in the public eye. Now, the actor has shared another milestone, posting his first topless photo after undergoing top surgery.

“Trans bb’s first swim trunks #transjoy #transisbeautiful,” he captions the Instagram post, which shows him standing (and beaming) in said trunks beside a swimming pool.

The image has prompted an outpouring of support from friends, fans, and co-stars. “Look a dat handsome boi,” writes Broad City creator Ilana Glazer. Julianne Moore — who starred across from Page in 2015’s Freeheld — adds: “Happy summer Elliot Page.”

Page previously spoke out about undergoing top surgery in a televised interview with Oprah, aired last month. “It’s being able to touch my chest and feel comfortable in my body — for the, probably the first time,” said the 34-year-old Juno star, adding that he feels a “newfound energy, because it is such a freeing experience... I want people to know that not only has it been life-changing for me, I do believe it’s been life-saving and it’s the case for so many people.”

In a March interview with Time — his first after coming out — Page also noted that going public with his transition has entailed a variety of emotions: “This feeling of true excitement and deep gratitude to have made it to this point in my life, mixed with a lot of fear and anxiety.”

Later this year, Page is set to reprise his role in Gerard Way’s Netflix show The Umbrella Academy, which resumed filming in February. Meanwhile, view his joyous poolside pic below.
