If you’ve sat at home looking up at drag superstars like Violet Chachki and Aquaria, or this season’s MUA pro Gottmik and thinking, “I can do that” – we have some sickening news for you. 

Drag legend and Emmy-winning make-up artist Raven is stepping out on her own as host of a new competition series. From World of Wonder, the makers of RuPaul’s Drag Race, Painted with Raven will search across the US for the next make-up superstar.

“Make-up is something I’ve always been very passionate about,” says Raven. “It is what ultimately started me on my drag career. I’m so happy to be hosting something I absolutely love to celebrate...a reality competition about fierce make-up!”

The contest will take the form of a series of (remote) fierce challenges and weekly face-offs during which the make-up artist finalists will fight to prove they’ve got what it takes to be on top. The winner of the series will take home $25,000. Set to start filming later this year, the creators of Painted with Raven are currently taking applications for US-based artists who are stuck at home and live and die for make-up.  

“Raven has dazzled audiences worldwide and we are so excited to welcome her as our host on the journey to find the next emerging make-up superstar,” says World of Wonder’s Randy Barbato and Fenton Bailey, who will act as executive producers of the series alongside RuPaul. 

Raven first made her Drag Race debut on the show’s second season, where she placed as runner-up behind Tyra Sanchez. She also appeared on the first season of All Stars, missing out on the crown to Chad Michaels. Since 2017, she has been RuPaul’s personal make-up artist and has served as a creative producer for Drag Race since season 10 and All Stars 3. Last September, she won her first Emmy award for Outstanding Makeup for a Multi-Camera Series or Special (Non-Prosthetic).
