Jackie Aina is on board to star in and executive produce a new documentary centring on Black social media influencers who are changing the mainstream beauty industry.

Social Beauty will give an exclusive look at the lives of these women as well as feature candid conversations with beauty editors, celebrity make-up artists, and brand executives to examine the impact of influencers on changing the industry's perception of beauty. Cydnee Black, Alissa Ashley, Whitney White, Shalom Blac, and Nyma Tang are also set to star, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

“I’m so excited to be a part of something that shows our impact as Black women in beauty,” says Aina. “I hope through this project people will see that so many of us are passionate, multifaceted, and more than what you see outwardly. It is an honor being a part of a community that encourages so many of us to believe in ourselves and to look and feel beautiful even when often times the media encourages otherwise.”

Actress Andrea Lewis is behind the film’s creation and will also produce. Kwanza Nicole Gooden is on board as director. “The change I’ve seen in the beauty industry as a result of these dynamic women is underestimated,” says Lewis.

“I grew up on TV and film sets learning how to do my own hair and make-up because there weren’t available beauty products that worked for me. These Black beauty influencers have led the charge in pointing out the lack of diversity in the beauty industry and inspiring more inclusion for women of colour.”

Jackie Aina started her YouTube channel back in 2009 after becoming frustrated with the lack of women of colour in the beauty industry. She now has 3.5 million followers on the platform and has collaborated with brands including Anastasia Beverly Hills as well as founding a lifestyle brand Forvr Mood, which launched this week with a collection of candles.

Last month, Aina announced she was cutting ties with cosmetics brand Morphe due to its relationship with Jeffree Star. Shortly after, Morphe announced it would no longer be working with the Star after years of racist and offensive behaviour.
