Gigi Hadid: ‘People are so fast to do permanent things to their face’

The supermodel addresses rumours of her plastic surgery

People love to speculate about celebrities and their faces. The popularity of Instagram accounts such as @celebface which are dedicated to exposing celebrity modifications, whether digital or surgical, show our fascination and insatiable appetite for uncovering the surgical enhancements of those in the public eye. And now one such celebrity, Gigi Hadid, has addressed the rumours that she has had surgical enhancements.

Last night, the model appeared on an Instagram live with Erin Parsons, Maybelline make-up artist and the brains behind some of our favourite fashion week make-up looks. During the stream, in which Parsons guided Hadid through a natural make-up look, the discussion turned to Hadid’s arched eyebrows which she says she was born with. “It’s so funny the things you see online, people think that I shape my brows really arched. If you look at baby pictures of me I’ve had these crazy arched brows since I was born,” she said.

This then led to Hadid revealing what else people say about her online. “People think I do fillers on my face and that’s why my face is round, it’s like I’ve had these cheeks since I was born. Especially fashion month when I was already a few months preggo.”

In response to Parsons asking if being pregnant had changed her face at all, Hadid said not really – she already has the cheeks so there’s “not a lot to fill in.”

“I’m happy with the natural process of the world but no for those wondering I’ve not put or injected anything into my face. I’m so happy for everyone to do whatever they want that makes them happy and makes them feel more comfortable and good about themselves but me personally, it terrifies me. I think I’m too much of a control freak that I’m like ‘what if it goes wrong.’”

“People are so fast to do permanent things to their face,” she continues. “I accept myself how it is. That doesn’t  mean I don’t have insecurities sometimes but for special occasions you can sculpt your nose a little bit or do whatever with make-up and make-up is such a beautiful tool to make you feel your best for special moments but like to also accept your beautiful face for exactly how God made it and your mama and dada.”
