Proving that mullets are still the style of the moment, Miley Cyrus has debuted a new, shorter mullet haircut.
At the beginning of this year, the singer heralded the mullet trend with a shaggy 70s cut which in isolation was updated into a full-on Joe Exotic-esque style. Now, she has gone even further with a choppy pixie cut that looks straight off the skull of Rod Stewart. The new look comes courtesy of her mum Tish under the guiding instructions of a virtual Sally Hershberger who gave Cyrus the original shag.
Speaking to People, Hershberger says she demonstrated how to do the cut on herself over FaceTime. “Instead of just telling them the step-by-step instructions, I physically do the cut with them. I find that actually demonstrating allows the client to get the best results,” she said.
“Miley loved the final look as much as I did! It’s so cool and daring to mesh together two styles into one that really expresses her own sense of style,” she continued. “I think it's an ongoing creative haircut.”
Really leaning into the history and legacy of queer woman mullets, Miley shared pictures of her new haircut on her Instagram stories alongside inspo pictures of Joan Jett – the OG mullet lover – and Cherie Currie from their Runaway days, as well as one of Debbie Harry.
