From rhinestone-encrusted cat eyes to playful geometric looks, the HBO show’s make-up was colourful, bejewelled, and over-the-top in the best possible way – a much needed tonic for the bleak political and environmental climates of 2019. From the very first episode, the beauty looks made waves, leaving countless recreations in their wake both on social media and within the wider fashion industry where the Euphoria effect was seen in full force during the SS20 season. And it was all thanks to the genius of one woman: make-up artist Doniella Davy. So when we were thinking about who we wanted to collaborate with as part of our Alone Together campaign we immediately thought of Davy. Who better to create a fun, inspirational look to help banish some of those isolation blues away. “The inspo was my white cowgirl hat from Texas that was hanging on the wall next to my bed and my love for attending rodeos and witnessing that profoundly soulful part of American culture, which is so exotic to me, as a city dweller” – Donni Davy Currently social distancing with her husband, roommate, and their two dogs, Davy says she has actually been finding the unstructured days of isolation to be liberating and nurturing. “I hate having to be anywhere at any time, and I’m a giant hermit, so I’m enjoying being in my zone and not feeling guilty about being anti-social,” she shares. “I have more anxiety about returning to normal.” For our ‘All Glammed Up With Nowhere To Go’ challenge, Davy created a futuristic rodeo pageant girl look with glittering brows, rhinestones around the lips and a hot pink eye in her signature geometric style. “The inspo was my white cowgirl hat from Texas that was hanging on the wall next to my bed,” she says, “and my love for attending rodeos and witnessing that profoundly soulful part of American culture, which is so exotic to me, as a city dweller.” Looking forwards to a time when we are out of this crisis, Davy says she plans to spend time with her family and friends in LA before beginning prep for the eagerly awaited season two of Euphoria. We can’t wait to see what fantastical looks she’ll dream up next.
