Dazed Beauty has teamed up with world famous music artist and visionary FKA twigs on issue 7 of her digital zine AVANTgarden.
Celebrating creativity beyond consumption, collaboration and sustainability, AVANTgarden 7 titled ‘Beauty of the Discarded’ sees Dazed Beauty come together with FKA twigs and radical mixed-media artist Lyle XOX.
Famous for giving household objects a second life, Lyle has reworked donated rubbish from members of the AVANTgarden family Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Courtney Love, Claire Barrow, Christopher Kane, Benny Blanco, Ed Marler, and Extinction Rebellion Youth’s Daze Aghaji to create unique fantasy sculptures to adorn FKA twigs’ face. Given new life and meaning, these carefully selected found object artworks are presented as portraits shot by photographer Nhu Xuan Hu.
Now more than ever, we’re all looking inwards and asking ourselves ‘what do we truly value?’. This project, which was created before lockdown, seems all the more pertinent giving the new world we now find ourselves in.
“This project is about the beauty of the discarded. It’s about how often we as humans get it wrong,” says twigs. “We’ve discarded how we’re supposed to live as humans and now we’re realising there are more simple ways to exist and that the closer we are to the earth the closer we are to the truth.” Read the interview with twigs and Lyle here.
As a way to extend the collaborative nature of this project we want to invite everyone at home to get involved. We’re asking you to create your own looks using found or household items inspired by Lyle’s facial sculptures. All you need to do is post them to tagging @dazedbeauty and the hashtag #CreativityBeyondConsumption. As twigs says, “Being able to collaborate is one of the great joys of being a human. If I didn’t think that before all of this, boy do I feel it now.”
So Pritt Stick at the ready because one man’s trash…
