BeautyBeauty newsT.I. – please leave your daughter’s hymen alone! The rapper has come under fire after he revealed he visits the gynaecologist with his 18-year-old annuallyShareLink copied ✔️November 7, 2019BeautyBeauty newsTextDominic Cadogan It’s crazy in 2019 that we need to be having this conversation, but apparently rapper T.I. hasn’t got the memo about women’s genitals being none of his business. Yesterday, it was reported that the rapper makes his daughter visit the gynaecologist annually, for the sole reason of making sure her hymen is still intact. Yes. You read that correctly. Appearing on podcast Ladies Like Us, the rapper was asked whether he had had the ‘sex talk’ with his daughter Deyjah Harris. “Not only have we had the conversation — we have yearly trips to the gynaecologist to check her hymen,” he said, before adding. “Yes, I go with her.” Despite the intimate nature of the visit, and the doctor trying to maintain a level of privacy, T.I. makes Harris sign a document so the information can be shared with him. He recalls leaving a post-it note on her door when she turned 16, to start the disturbing tradition, and proudly adds: “I will say, as of her 18th birthday, her hymen is still intact.” The checking of Harris’s hymen, a so-called virginity test, has been widely denounced – with the breaking of the hymen from non-sexual activities like horse-riding, bike-riding, and general athletic activities a common occurrence. The World Health Organisation called it “a violation of the human rights of girls and women.” Beyond that, the message it sends to his daughter (and women in the wider world) is that being sexually active is something that isn’t right, and that women shouldn’t be in charge of their own bodies. So, it bears repeating, T.I. – leave your daughter’s hymen alone! this is disgusting, possessive and controlling *whew*— Avenge Latasha Harlins (@race_jones) November 6, 2019That is just beyond possessive— F R E D E R I C T O N 🌙 (@sajesoul) November 6, 2019This hymen talk is very strange and at the core of it teaches your daughters their bodies aren’t theirs. Don’t do that.— ❂ (@sweetseducingdy) November 6, 2019So instead of celebrating the fact that his child lived another year, TI spends his time hyper-fixating on whether or not her hymen is intact? This is so overwhelmingly weird and toxic and he needs to be stopped— 𝑺𝒁𝑨'𝒔 𝑪𝒐𝒍𝒐𝒓𝒆𝒅 𝑾𝒊𝒈 (@sammyhammy727) November 6, 2019asking a doctor to check your daughter to see if she has been having sex is humiliating & sick af. & you can’t even always tell by a broken hymen. you can break your hymen by hurting yourself on a bike seat.— patrisha (@patrishaluxe) November 6, 2019Expand your creative community and connect with 15,000 creatives from around the world.READ MORECan psychedelics enhance your workout? So you want to smell like an ancient god?Inside India’s blossoming drag sceneDina, the Siberian make-up artist transforming into works of artThe sinister rise of the ‘skinny BBL’Starface wants us to have a Charlie Brown ChristmasWhat it’s like to be called ‘old’ as a 20-something onlineNicola Formichetti on MAC Cosmetics’ new ‘indie’ era These photos capture the messy reality of post-club make-upThe risky business of bringing back archive beauty productsSo you want to smell like a cyborg?Aerosol Couture: This surreal SFX exhibition uses the body as a canvas
