Get ready for the new Gucci Beauty

The first colour cosmetics under Alessandro Michele’s reign are here

Back in September, Gucci teased the coming of a potential make-up range when they launched their Instagram @GucciBeauty. For the last six months, however, the account has focused on promoting the fashion house’s fragrances, including the Lana del Rey and Jared Leto-fronted Gucci Guilty, without a whisper of colour cosmetics. Until now.

That’s right, Gucci Makeup is officially here.

Launching tomorrow, Gucci Makeup will debut its new lipstick range (other product categories will follow at a later date). The three collections will come with different formulations –  Rouge à Lèvres Satin with a satin finish, Rouge à Lèvres Voile with a sheer finish, and Baume à Lèvres, a lip balm with a translucent finish – with an overall total of 58 shades. The lipsticks, which will be perfumed with violet, will also come housed in a variety of tubes including turquoise, ivory with pink rosebuds and gold with an etched Art Deco motif.

“Lipstick is the most beautiful object you can find inside a handbag,” Alessandro Michele, Gucci’s creative director who was involved in each step of the process, told WWD. “Lipstick is a playful object because it recalls crayons that children color with. Lipstick also symbolizes the world of cinema, and all the famous lips from Hollywood.”

Michele also emphasised that the lipstick was made for everyone and anyone who wants to wear it. “It’s time to free men from the idea that makeup is an interpretation and an idea of femininity,” he says. “Makeup is a total expression of freedom, because putting on lipstick means you are getting closer to the amplified idea that you want to give yourself.”

The collection will be launched with an accompanying campaign shot by Martin Parr and starring Dani Miller, the lead singer of punk band Surfbort, and models Mae Lapres, Achok Majak and Ellia Sophia Coggins, with make-up by Thomas de Kluyver. The lipsticks will be available exclusively on gucci.com from tomorrow; in Gucci’s New York Fifth Avenue store from May 5th; the Gucci beauty store in Saks Fifth Avenue on May 6; Gucci Beauty make-up collection will launch into Harrods on 28th May 2019; and then will continue to roll out worldwide from then.
