How to get mathematically perfect brows, by Anastasia Beverly Hills

Anastasia Soare of Anastasia Beverly Hills walks us through her Golden Ratio based guide for getting perfect brows

Welcome to Beauty School, the corner of Dazed Beauty dedicated to learning. From guides to histories, this is where we shed light on past subcultural movements and educate our readers on current trends and various goings-on.

Having been creating perfect brows for the last 20 years, Anastasia Soare, the Anastasia in Anastasia Beverly Hills (heard of her?) has to be the woman to take your brow advice from. With a technique informed by the mathematical Golden Ratio, a pattern of symmetry found throughout art and nature and said to be the root of “true beauty,” Anastasia and her team have done their research, practised it and perfected it for two decades.

Don’t be fooled by the brand’s four-season sponsorship of Ru Paul’s Drag Race, there’s no glueing or shaving your brows, here, just very simple da Vinci-esque lines of proportion applied to your nose, eyes, and brows.

It’s not often you get tips from an industry icon of this calibre, so take note and make your brows the best they can be.

Assemble Your Tools

When creating the perfect brow, it’s typically not a one-and-done process. You’ll discover with time which products work best for your routine and the look you want to create.

Discover Your Unique Shape

Step one of the patented ABH Golden Ratio Shaping Technique measures where brows should begin - directly above the middle of your nostrils. Brows too far or that overlap these points can make the eyes appear more wide or close-set.

Determine Your Brow’s End Point

Brows should end where the corner of the nostril connects with the outer corner of the eye. An open-ended tail can add more space to the parameter of the face, making it look wider.

Find the Highest Point of Your Arch

The highest point should connect the middle of the tip of the nose with the middle of the iris.

Prime Your Brows

Use our Brow Primer, a soft, colourless wax pencil, before using a powder product. The wax holds hair in place and creates the ideal base

Choose Your Weapon

This is where personal preference will take the wheel. Dipbrow Pomade is full-pigment, full-impact for a buildable application that stays put. Brow Powder Duo is a two-shade compact that allows for colour customization, capable of creating both natural and dramatic looks. Tinted Brow Gel offers a matte finish with a flexible hold for standalone use or layered over another product. No matter what you gravitate towards, always fill in your eyebrows ombre - starting at the arch, working to the tail, and using the lightest application for the middle points.

Break Out Your Brow Wiz

If you can only take one brow product with you, this is the one. This ultra-thin, retractable pencil allows you to create thin, hairlike strokes that mimic your own natural brown hair - excellent for touchups and areas of sparseness. Brush through with the spoolie end to blend.

Cleanup the Brow

Once your brows are filled in, tweeze any hairs that may have grown outside of your shape. They’ll stand out one you’ve finished, so you don’t run the risk of over-tweezing.

Define Your Shape

The ABH Highlighting Duo pencil comes with two ends - a shimmer to highlight your brow bone and a matte end for defining the brow line. To create a natural-looking finish, apply first the shimmer end, follow with the matte end, and blend together. This product will give you the crisp edges to your brow without looking overdrawn.

Seal the Deal

After all that work, you’re going to want your brows to stay put all day. The ABH Clear Brow Gel sets colour and holds the hair in place for a polished look that lasts. Apply in short, upward strokes and you’re ready to
