Deriving from our obsession for things which are “oddly satisfying” (a term born from Reddit to describe the feeling one gets from watching an extremely mundane task being completed), our desire to see disembodied hands play with amorphous sludge has taken on a world of its own. Slime accounts boast thousands and sometimes millions of followers and have captivated a generation.

“We poke slime,” Slime Queens state in their Instagram bio and that’s exactly what they do. It doesn’t seem much, but it has caught the attention of 2 million people. Different coloured and textured slime getting stretched, fingered and moulded – what’s not to love?

Mixing things up from the traditional slime poking, Crafty Slime Creator sometimes introduces other materials into their slimes such as foam balls, food dye, and pom-poms, as well as posting instructional how-to videos. The founder of the account has also written a slime recipe book titled “Ultimate Slime.”

Raindrop Slime

As well as the obligatory poking and prodding, on Raindrop Slime you can enjoy the visual pleasures of slime oozing through a tennis racket, their signature move.

Our obsession with slime doesn’t just stop at visual consumption, it has now become a market. Not only can you watch seductively satisfying slime videos on this account but you can buy the slime displayed in the videos too. Go on, just take all of my money.

With a two million strong following, Glitter Slimes is another Instagram account doubling as a slime merchant. Coming in different designs, white slime with toy spiders inside, for example, and in a range of different scents like hot cocoa, you can buy these slime creations or watch them being poked and prodded online before your very eyes.

Slime Fantasies

Both odd and satisfying, Slime Fantasies deals in artisanal produce only. With sleek packaging and a smorgasbord of different flavours, from s’mores to strawberry sundae, this slime looks good enough to eat.

Slime OG
