Arts+Culture / NewsBeyoncé has invested in a watermelon drinks companyForget Lemonade, now the singer’s latest investment is in a health conscious sports drink, and those “Drunk in Love” lyrics are all making senseShareLink copied ✔️May 4, 2016Arts+CultureNewsTextKemi Alemoru It’s been a busy month for Beyoncé, and while she’s still drinking up the success of her latest album Lemonade, it appears the auteur wants us all to start chugging another favourite fruit of hers. Having already conquered the music industry, branched out into fashion, and dabbled in acting, it's been revealed that she has now heavily invested in a watermelon-based sports drink company. The water made from “unused watermelons’, known as WTRMLN WTR, brings new meaning to the “I’ve been drinking, watermelon” lyric in her Jay Z collab “Drunk in Love”. It’s been billed as a drink for the health conscious, for which the singer is a “meaningful shareholder”, according to its CEO Jody Levy. In a statement, the 34-year-old singer said: "I invested in WTRMLN WTR because it's the future of clean, natural hydration; as partners, we share a simple mission to deliver accessible wellness to the world. This is more than an investment in a brand, it's an investment in female leaders, fitness, American farmers and the health of people and our planet." While we aren’t sure what any of that really means, it is clear that this investment is a bump in the road for the widely held fan theory that “drinking watermelon” was a veiled reference to semen. For Beyoncé’s sake, let’s hope that Urban Dictionary definition doesn’t ruin people’s interest in trying her new refreshment. Since the “Formation” singer is looking for new projects to invest in, one can only wonder who she will partner with next. Encona hot sauce? Becky’s new hair extension business? Or will she open up her own branch of 7/11? Keep your eyes peeled. Escape the algorithm! Get The DropEmail address SIGN UP Get must-see stories direct to your inbox every weekday.
