20-year old rapper Bobby Shmurda, née Ackquille Pollard, has been arrested by cops in New York on drug trafficking and gang-related shooting charges. Kati Cornell, a spokesperson for the city's narcotics prosecutor confirmed to Wondering Sound that police had been trailing Shmurda for some time.

"These arrests were the result of a long-term investigation,” she said. “The investigation did involve a number of violent incidents as well as narcotics trafficking.”

Police had placed surveillance on the rapper, who was arrested at Quad Studios on 7th Avenue yesterday along with 12 others. 20 firearms were reportedly found at the studios.

Shmurda has had a difficult year with law enforcers. In June he was arrested on a gun charge and in October he was arrested for possession of marijuana. Police troubles aside, it's been a pretty good year for the rapper whose song "Hot Nigga" has racked up just shy of 50 million plays on YouTube. His debut LP is expected to land next year on Epic and he just announced a collaborative mixtape with Migos.

Charges are being filed in Manhattan Supreme Court this afternoon. New York has notoriously tough gun laws so if indicted, Shmurda could face time behind bars.
