Dazed & Confused’s visual arts editor Francesca Gavin and Kirsty Ogg from the Whitechapel Gallery made the announcement at an event held at the Whitechapel Gallery with drinks provided by Peroni. Parry receives the first prize of £6,000 in the award judged by Kirsty Ogg, Francesca Gavin, artist Eva Rothschild, gallerist Sadie Coles, gallery director Darren Flook, and curator Paul Pieroni. In support of the vibrant UK creative community, the award, now in its second year, is an invaluable platform for emerging artists of all disciplines. The other artists chosen as part of the shortlist who all received a cash prize of £1,000, are: Gabriele Beveridge, Ellie Harrison, Bruce Ingram, Samuel Levack & Jennifer Lewandowski. These artists, along with the winner Richard Parry, are currently exhibiting new work in a group exhibition until Sunday, October 23, 2011 at a temporary gallery space just off Brick Lane at 37 Heneage St, London E1 5LJ, a five min walk from the Whitechapel Gallery.
