Yayoi Kusama is unveiling a never-before-seen Infinity Mirror Room at the David Zwirner Gallery in New York later this year. In true Kusama fashion, the one-month exhibition – which takes place between November and December – will feature the Japanese artist’s signature polka-dot paintings, eye-catching sculptures and everyone’s IG Explore favourite, a brand new Infinity Room. While the gallery has not yet disclosed any futher information about the contents of the exhibition, if Kusama’s previous work is anything to go by, expect to be warped amongst giant, patterned sculptures and labyrinthine corridors of mirrors. Dubbed the most Instagrammable artist out there, Kusama’s work is a favourite amongst selfie-takers, with the popularity of her exhibitions synonymous with long queues, limited tickets and strict time slots. In the last five years, over five million museum visitors have queued to look at her art, while a 2017 show at the Broad in LA saw the artist implement a 30-second selfie rule, to allow for as many people as possible to view her work. While there’s still a little while to go until the exhibition’s opening in November, we recommend watching the 2018 documentary Kusama: Infinity, which traces the legacy of the 90-year-old artist, in the meantime. And if you’re lucky enough to cop a ticket to the show, whatever you do, don’t step on a pumpkin.
