Robin Williams’ collection of art and memorabilia is getting auctioned off

Among the items going to Sotheby’s for auction is a selection of art, watches, and film memorabilia Robin Williams collected during his lifetime

On July 20, Rolling Stone reported that a selection of Robin Williams’ personal items would be going to auction. Titled Creating a Stage: The Collection of Marsha and Robin Williams, that auction will be held at Sotheby’s in New York City on October 4.

Described as an auction that will “offer works spanning Marsha’s and Robin’s diverse interests and careers, all reflecting their shared passion for collecting”, the site for the auction lists of a variety of categories that will be filled to the brim with items going on the auction block like film memorabilia, including “autographed scripts, awards, props and wardrobe associated with projects across Marsha’s and Robin’s careers”; highly valued modern artworks, including a Niki de Saint-Phalle sculpture and street art by Banksy, Shepard Fairey, and Invader; a selection of Williams’ watches; and finally, some bikes, sports memorabilia, furniture, and other decorative art. The website also notes that proceeds from the auction will go to charities that both Williams’ and his second wife supported.

The news was reported just one day before July 21, on what would have been Williams’ 67th birthday. Williams has also been in the news thanks to the release of the HBO documentary Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind, which reflects on his personal life and, among many aspects of his life, his struggles with his mental health.
