One of only two illustrators shortlisted for
Diesel's Brave New World competition, Andy Council uses his drawing skills and love of detail to create bizarrely intricate collections of creatures, from rabbits made of tanks to dinosaurs mobilized by ‘lots of stuff’. He was trained in the traditional techniques of animation and drawing, influenced by Miyazaki and Geoff Darrow amongst others, then taught himself digital techniques and now uses a combination of graphics, line drawing, ink and paint pen. Not content with screen or paper, Andy is now assaulting windows of Bristol with his unique menagerie.

What's...
...so special about you, then?
I live with a Penguin/Panther hybrid and a Taxidermy Duck.
It was watching Neighbours, but it has gone so shite of late I don't think I will be following it when it moves over to Channel 5.
...better - analog or digital?
Digilog. At the moment it is more Log as my computer keeps fucking up
...your favourite piece of clothing?
My old Grey hooded top called drab.
A giant train station like place where it will terminate and everyone can get off on go on to another world. At the moment the world is in a place and time rather like Didcot Parkway.
Is a place of wonder that attracts the weirdigans, the freaks, the old, people going on about ringtones and lots of people called Tom who want to be my friend.

...the name of your hero?
...so great about your hero?
It lurks in the countryside and sometimes jumps out of hedges and scares people. It has managed to avoid capture for many years, but this could be because it doesn't exist.
...next year going to bring?
The major cities of the world will take the form of giant dinosaurs and I will bring out a colouring book.
...your worst fashion secret?
Puffa Jacket. I was most disappointed when a shop in Bristol called "Fat Jackets" actually turned out to be a shop that sold jacket potatoes.
How would you describe your work?
My work has been described as “a sideways examination of urban life”, which I think sums it up quite well.
