Taro Harouchi (Antwerp, Belgium)

A recent success for Taro Harouchi was winning the Diesel International Talent Support event. Every summer a new designer earns the opportunity to create a capsule collection for Diesel as part of the Diesel award at the ITS event in Trieste, Italy. Taro Horiuchi collected his award from Diesel Creative Director, Wilbert Das, at last year's event in July and his collection is now available to buy in selected Diesel stores. The 25-year-old Japanese designer studied at Hogeschool in Antwerp but has been working on this project with the creative team at Diesel HQ in Italy. His men's five-piece capsule collection for Diesel is based on the graduate show that won him this prize: entitled "Ancient Plastic Air" it is inspired by African primitive religions. "By using different leathers, fur and mutton mixed with new technical fabrics, it is very effective to make a new look," explains Taro of his sporty-yet-tailored looks. "I wanted to make a new kind of garment- modern and clean, heavy but light". Available now at Selfridges Diesel and Diesel Bond Street.
