Is it the ‘deep state’ or is it just that they’re both great on Twitter – who knows?
Things are not always as they seem. There is deep shit going on behind the scenes that our tiny little minds couldn’t even comprehend. But every once in a while we get a glimpse behind the black curtain, a brief look at the powers that be.
At least that is what Eric Trump, the heir to Donald’s impressive real estate fortune, has asserted. He believes that none other than sprightly talk show host Ellen DeGeneres is a part of a shadow government along with Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.
Rather than getting the information from a government intelligence agency, the younger Trump found out via Twitter’s “Who to follow” and took a screenshot as proof that there is a “deep state”.
The deep state conspiracy theory is a key concept of the alt-right claiming that there is a hidden entity that lurks within the government with the goal of undermining the democratically elected administration. The theory is popular with Steve Bannon and pundits on Fox who believe Obama is still operating a government behind the scenes, even though he definitely isn’t.
The 59-year-old talk show host denied allegations to her audience during the last episode calling the tweet “the craziest thing” before joking that she had also seen “that movie with the lady having sex with the fish and still this beats that”.
“I just wanna say, Eric, I am honoured that you think that I’m powerful enough to be part of a government conspiracy I am sorry to disappoint you, I am not part of the deep state. Even if somebody wanted me to be involved, I don’t have that kind of time,” DeGeneres continued. “I’ve got my gay agenda meetings on Mondays. On Wednesday Beyoncé and I host an Illuminati brunch.”
