German photographer Jan von Holleben celebrates a professional decade with a new book

How can you not like a photographer whose favourite subjects are not super models but pirates, fairies, dragons, monsters and punks? German-born Jan von Holleben started taking photos aged 13, but took his hobby to more professional level exactly ten years ago when enlisted at Surrey Institute of Art & Design to learn the theory and history of his trade. And what a decade it's been; von Holleben has captured thousands of moments, and it's those snaps he's now celebrating with the release of HO HO HO, a book of 57 images taken from March 2000 until present day. "These images, constructed with friends, are the leitmotif for all my projects. They communicate creative moments in which many of my photographic concepts were born, tested and finalised", von Holleben explains. Published in 500 cloth bound hardcover copies, the book emerged in conjunction with the Cultural Office of the City of Buehl, and also led to a travelling exhibition of Jan von Holleben's work. The son of a cinematographer, von Holleben's work has been published in Zeit Magazine, Neon, Dazed & Confused and Geo. HO HO HO will soon be available in selected book shops, but anyone desperate to get hold of a copy can meanwhile do so on von Holleben's website.
