We get a mix from Jerry Bouthier in preparation of the Ponystep x Kitsuné party hosted by Neon Noise in London this weekend

Dazed Digital speak to the artistic collective Ponystep's (and former Boombox) founder Richard Mortimer and director/ one half of music at all-round tastemaking record and fashion label Kitsune, Gildas Loaec. About to descend on London's Heaven this weekend with Neon Noise Project, Kitsuné Maison "meets” Ponystep this Easter Bank Holiday Sunday 4th April. With acts like Yuksek, Crystal Fighters, and Fenech Soler playing live alongside DJ sets from Friendly Fires, Two Door Cinema Club, Tronik Youth, and Luca C, expect a second onslaught of music from the Ponystep contenders JBAG, Matthew Stone, and Richard Mortimer plus a surprise guest.
Dazed Digital: What is it about Ponystep that fits in with the Kitsune aesthetic?
Gildas Loaec: Definitely the love of the beautiful things and the love for great music.
DD: How do you know Richard and the JBAG crew?
Gildas Loaec: Through my long time good friend Jerry Bouthier. Jerry has been DJing for Richard since a while now;
Jerry and I share a lot in music; We love songs and pop and dancey tunes... so naturally we get along well too with Richard...
DD: Did you go to the Boombox's in Hoxton?
Gildas Loaec: Of course! A few times! I think I even DJed there too. I remember great nights... We even did a Kitsuné Boombox Compilation two years ago... including Alistair Allan pictures and a great Jerry Bouthier mix...
DD: Massive line-up on the night, will you stay to party the whole time?
Gildas Loaec: We are definitely happy about the line up.. from Ponystep DJs to some French chic like newcomers Jamaica, rising star YukSek and veteran DJ Falcon.. but also some cool UK bands like Two Door CInema Club, Friendly Fires etc; I will stay to party the whole time. Yes of course, apart if something better happens at the McDonalds nearby.. which I doubt.
Richard Mortimer-
Dazed Digital: Why Heaven?
Richard Mortimer: I like the fact that its a little unexpected for us to be doing something in the West End. We have such a strong identity with the East End, but the truth is, its exciting to go somewhere else now. Shoreditch is becoming a haven for stag nights and hen parties, and I think the west end will have a revival quite soon. More than anything though, Heaven provides us with enough space to really make this party go off - and its got a good license.
DD: You're known for all the successful parties you've thrown, what do you think makes a good party?
Richard Mortimer: First and foremost, its the people. I'm sure my DJs will hate me for saying this, but the people are more important than the music to some extent. You can have the best DJs in the world playing, but if the club is full of knobs, you are not going to have a good time.
DD: What was the best party you've ever been to?
Richard Mortimer: Ah, this is a tricky one - as you can imagine, I've been to a fair few. I have a real fondness for my early days of clubbing - I had a great time going to places like Nag Nag Nag, Mirkin and Kashpoint. I think one of the most fun parties ever was the POP Magazine's christmas party at BoomBox, which was really fun, or possibly the BoomBox/Kitsune CD launch in Paris, which was the most decadent party I have ever been to. The bar was so busy, the staff resorted to just hading over full bottles of champagne to people. Everyone in the club was drinking from bottles of Champagne all night. It got very messy!
DD: How will people remember this one?
Richard Mortimer: I'm hoping they will be so drunk that they won't... Or a very vague recollection of it anyway!
