The long-awaited record, formerly known as Swish (and, before that, as So Help Me God) will now be known as Waves – making it the third official title change in less than a year. West, who has already deemed the album as “the best of all time”, announced the change on Twitter last night: New album title, WAVES— KANYE WEST (@kanyewest) January 27, 2016#Waves the album formally known as Swish 😭😭😭— KANYE WEST (@kanyewest) January 27, 2016 He also included an updated version of the tracklist, which was originally posted earlier this week. The new, annotated version shows an extra track, “Ultra Light Beam”, as well as potential collaborations with A$AP Rocky, The-Dream and Swizz Beatz. #wavespic.twitter.com/fyER7NH8DC— KANYE WEST (@kanyewest) January 27, 2016 However, despite all of Kanye’s evident excitement about the release, there have been some who are not so happy about the switch. Wiz Khalifa, after hearing the news last night, tweeted his disdain about the new title – claiming the name Waves was a rip-off of imprisoned rapper Max B’s “wave” movement. “Please don't take the wave,” Wiz tweeted. “Max B is the wavy one. He created the wave. There is no wave without him. He's the reason I sing on all my songs. That's the wave. If theres nothing wit that sound ITS NOT WAVY.” Kanye responded with a tweet to honour the original wave rapper’s legacy, before quickly expressing more enthusiasm about the record. “All respect to Andre Harrel and Max B,” he wrote, before adding: “I got this record niggas can't even play before 2 am.” “This is not album of the year. This is album of the life.” Waves is currently set for release on February 11 Expand your creative community and connect with 15,000 creatives from around the world.READ MOREBloodz Boi: The humble godfather of Chinese underground rapA rare interview with POiSON GiRL FRiEND, dream pop’s future seerNigeria’s Blaqbonez is rapping to ‘beat his high score’Inside Erika de Casier’s shimmering R&B universe ‘Rap saved my life’: A hazy conversation with MIKE and Earl Sweatshirt7 essential albums by the SoulquariansIs AI really the future of music? The KPop Demon Hunters directors on fan theories and a potential sequelplaybody: The club night bringing connection back to the dancefloorAn interview with IC3PEAK, the band Putin couldn’t silenceFrost Children answer the dA-Zed quizThe 5 best features from PinkPantheress’ new remix album
