One quick glimpse at the overrun streams of social media will confirm this. After all, where would we even be without him? With his mishmashed personas and unequivocal uniqueness, the Thin White Duke has changed pop culture so immeasurably that it’s hard to imagine anyone like him ever walking among us again. One person – among the many millions – left heartbroken by his departure is pop prodigy Lorde. In a moving tribute posted on her Facebook yesterday, the “Royals” singer mourned the loss of the cultural icon. “Everything I’ve read or seen since the news has been deeply intrinsic in tone, almost selfish, like therapy,” she wrote. “That’s who he was to all of us. He was a piece of bright pleated silk we could stretch out or fold up small inside ourselves when we needed to.” Lorde, whose music was once described by Bowie as being the sound of “tomorrow”, went on to describe her lifechanging first meeting with the star. “That night something changed in me – I felt a calmness grow, a sureness. I think in those brief moments, he heralded me into my next new life, an old rock and roll alien angel in a perfect grey suit.” Read the full post below: When a hero dies, everyone wants a quote.
