Kanye West turned up at the New York New York party during Paris Fashion Week, wearing denim if you’re interested and seemed to be sitting on a higher seat than everyone else. I was wrong to doubt. Mr James Murphy and Busy P were also on hand for fashion fun in Paris. Before the party we had played live in an amazing art deco theatre, as part of a series of concerts and events called Pop Up. Our album launch at Fabric was amazing. A big thanks to all who came, it was an amazing night. Special mention to Zombie Nation whose live show was fantastic and to The Chap, who have the best dance moves. That dude wears shorts on stage, they are very special. Since this rather splendid weekend we have been to Hull. No offence to Hull but we weren’t expecting much. We turned up to the venue, The Adelphi, which is positioned down a suburban street and it wasn't looking great - how wrong we were! What a gig, what a venue, what a history. It has been going for 25 years with the same owner, Paul, an old hippy who has only had 52 hours off in this time. The sound man is a bit of a legend too, he has been there for all those 25 years, he must have started when he was 20, they all add to the slightly off kilter hippy nature of the venue which houses half a bus built into the bar. The support band called Mountain Goat Frenzy have the best hair I have ever seen. Backcombing is alive and well in Hull. Their excellent drummer had a sort of sideways mullet, which I have seen before. Backcombing aside they were great and well worth checking out live as they created a glorious electronic punk noise. They also had a group of friends who all looked like young Arctic Monkeys 'moshing' at the front. They looked amazing too, like young Mods, in their Fred Perry jackets, skinny jeans, knackered plimsolls and nervous looks at each other; it was a bit like going back in time. We stayed behind for a lock-in, playing an extended game of pool/killer, with the owner, the promoters, some regulars and Michelle who everyone had been to school with and used to be called Dave.Sheffield and Club Pony, our favourite night to play in this city. We deejay-ed here about a year ago and had an amazing night so we had high hopes. It didn’t disappoint with a packed and crazy crowd. Mike our host was amazing as ever and Stopmakingme, who is our Kill Em All resident was also deejaying, so it was a party night. A lot of horse tranquiliser was found on some members of the crowd apparently, which might explain some of the madness out there. After the gig I dropped my phone down the toilet back stage in a multi tasking accident. No tranquilisers of any kind involved - phone still broken and now smells a bit. Back to London and I attempted a normal Sunday, so met with friends for red wine and roasts, was half asleep by 4pm so had to retire early and go home and listen to Joakims new mix for Fact magazine, fuck me its good, he is my new musical hero.We have been working on a remix for Lady GaGa this week; we got given her one and only ballad to remix - gutted. Anyway got to grips with it, sounds kind of good and I like her; the world needs more genuine stars. We are starting work on one for Who Made Who soon. Love that band - we toured with them, Mylo and Hot Chip a few years ago so we became close with those skeleton suit wearing chaps. We better do a good job. Finally having a day off I have been wandering around my flat. Since playing live I have realised my collection of snow globes hasn’t increased. I got into the habit of buying them whenever I deejay-ed abroad. Sadly I haven't seen many snow globes in the UK. A Hull snow-globe could be a thing of beauty. Maybe local tourist boards should consider these things. I have also discovered something odd in my freezer. Our album Nonsense in the Dark came out on Monday - hurrah! I think I must have been a bit pissed when I got home after our in-store at Pure Groove records. You can see the evidence in one of the attached photos. We also did an XFM session this week on Jon Kennedy's show, What a gent he is, very nice to chat to and that dude knows a lot about music.Played in Kingston the other night - pretty good gig, not a classic, but pretty good. Signed some records in Banques Records before the gig. Still find that weird, but its also quite flattering. This week on the tour bus I have mainly listening to Tiga's new album. It's splendid and some of it is utter genius. Jack Penate's new single Tonight’s Today, has really blown me away. The free CD on the front of Mojo this month is a collection of psychedelic garage bands from the late 60s. Some fine sitar and flute action - maybe a sound we should explore on album two…well maybe?! One of the tracks has the line "the crystal visions of an open mind." That is great - maybe just steal that. On to Leeds - beautiful day, went to find the oldest pub in Leeds, we were lost so I asked the nearest bloke to me who was just posting a letter. He turned out to be the landlord of the pub, ha, nice coincidence. He obviously gave us excellent directions. Great pub, first opened in 1715. Leeds was pretty different then I would imagine. Our gig was at the Faversham; we played after the lovely Chew Lips. End of tour.We can actually get some sleep for a couple of days, then back in the studio to do more remixes and we are playing Amsterdam, Antwerp, Paris, Madrid, Barcelona, Camden Crawl & supporting Ultravox in April. Just thought I would slip that last one in there – Ultravox! That is crazy, but amazing. Even more crazy is my Aunty is the ballerina in their 1981 video for Vienna. Keep it in the family. The other day I saw a man with a picture of a cat on his hat, I had to follow him to get the photo, no idea what it was about or why, but I liked it and thought I would share it.Filthy Dukes album Nonsense in the Dark out now.
