The 6-minute short film is directed and soundtracked by M.I.A. herself, and includes the 2013 banger “Warriors” (from Matangi) and a brand new, drum-laden dance-ready beat “Swords”. The clip was shot in West Africa and India and includes footage of an array of dancers, including a number of girls swinging swords atop white horses. M.I.A. herself is seen flinging sticks of fire around and meditating in front of the sun. It's alright for some. Earlier this year, M.I.A. revealed that she’d been told she wasn’t able to put out a video that was shot in Africa due to fears of cultural appropriation. It's pretty likely that this is the video, and we think it rules. What do you think? Click here to watch "Matahdatah Scroll 01 Broader Than a Border" via Apple Music Escape the algorithm!
