You might not instantly compare Berlin crooner Dan Bodan’s great album Soft to the frayed electronic edges of his DFA cohorts, or the artists he performs alongside like pop renegades Doss or Physical Therapy, so this mix is a great way of connecting the dots. Swish from “Lazy Afternoon” and vintage Sondheim to the self-searching drama of early Xiu Xiu and Medúlla with a drifting drama a little like the field recordings that Bodan cuts onto the ends of his own tracks. “I thought ‘Weighted Eyelids’ sounded like listening to the radio when you’re half asleep, going somewhere,” Bodan says. “Listen to it on a long bus or train ride when you're falling asleep.”
