Swedish synth veteran Kleerup has a collaboration-heavy EP out next week called If We Never Won, and he follows its Susanne Sundfør-vocalled lead track with the immediately-memorable "Rock U", which heralds the return of Niki & The Dove (Gustaf Karlöf, Malin Dahlström). With a chugging guitar and Dahlström’s husked vocals, "Rock U" doesn’t sound so different from peak-period Stevie Nicks – but Niki & The Dove see it as more forward-looking. “When Kleerup played the riff for the first time, we only heard the sound of future space,” they say. Kleerup, meanwhile, was inspired by the time ”when you always recorded radio shows on Maxwell-90 min tapes.” WIth the Johnny Cash-esque lyric "I walk the line" it feels like we’re daydreaming into a retro-future – take a trip below.
