Music / First LookX priest X – Samurai EPExclusive: stream the Florida duo's gloriously catchy synth-pop EPShareLink copied ✔️April 15, 2014MusicFirst LookText Parker Bruce Photography Jennifer Medina Today, the Swedish label with the most on point, accurate name, Emotion, releases the first EP by Floridians X priest X, Samurai. Mostly known for their Scandinavian releases by World Tour and Karl X Johan, X priest X's EP sees Emotion expanding its horizons – literally, musically, and emotionally. The title track, which came out as a demo in 2013, has saintly synth pushes and fitful drums sounding like Cutting Crew’s “I Just Died In Your Arms Tonight” in the best way imaginable. The tracks on Samurai call to mind Chvrches and Say Lou Lou with Kazyk’s bucolic synth beds and pads kneading away, but singer Madeline Priest and producer Dave Kazyk are aiming for something more complex than just ominous pop with this EP. It's like an investigation into all the synth can do, with X priest X letting it be the beacon that guides the way. Shine on. Buy here Escape the algorithm!
