Moscow-born, New York-based electronic artist Slava may not be the darkest artist on Software Recording Co., but his mutating, house-referencing music is like a 9-volt battery to the tongue. The fleshy artwork for this year's Raw Solutions album depicted him unzipping his own flesh, and Eugene Kotlyarenko's video for "Girl Like Me" sofly lit dewy teen incest. This new mix moves with the teeth-gritting pace of your favourite body horror, cutting from propulsive house to Moombahton and K-pop, and flirting with R&B from Jhené Aiko and Ashanti. In Slava's hands the familiar is made unsettling, and the present teeters on a knife-edge as he roughly yet painstakingly sketches the future of dance.
