Having toured half the world before their first release, Mads Damsgaard Kristiansen and Esben Valløe aka Reptile Youth, are the Danish 'post-pop' phenomena whose dark music evokes the anger their name youthfully projects. With their debut full length album out September this year, Reptile Youth chat to Dazed about their live worldwide performances, from their hometown of Copenhagen to Shanghai and the US.
...special about you?
Reptile Youth: Our first ever show was in Shanghai and we toured half the world before releasing anything.
...the story behind your name?
Reptile Youth: When saying it we just knew. Is contains all our anger and all our dreams. It's us.
...your worst vice?
Esben: Coffee and insomnia.
Mads: Madly believing in love.
...your favourite sound?
Esben: A breathtaking doomsday sounding synth sound on a new demo we just recorded.
Mads: And silence. Or is this not a sound?
...your favourite label?
Reptile Youth: Hfn Music. And then Danish golemtapes.blogspot.com is just unique.
...your worst fashion secret?
Mads: I have a matching set of purple seventies shorts and t-shirt. All my friends tell me that it looks nothing but bad. I'm still not sure.
Esben: My sunglasses that I always wear in my hair.
...are you listening to now?
Reptile Youth: Tame Impala, Diiv and 90s euro dance.
How would you describe your work?
Reptile Youth: Obsessed.
Reptile Youth: Touring. Playing summer festivals, releasing our full length debut in September, touring all of europe and playing our first US shows.
