Music / RiseArcheo Exclusive Dazed MixThe dapper 21-year-old singer bringing back unabashedly commercial pop mixes up the likes of Kanye, Rick James and Lady Leshurr for usShareLink copied ✔️December 8, 2011MusicRiseText Dazed Digital Providing the charismatic voice to 90s-tinged, funked-up pop dancefloor fillers, London's singer, songwriter, and producer Archeo has recently released his commercial pop anthem ‘Mr General’ on his own label Music Mantra. With a mother from Panama and a father from India, Archeo also lived in Hong Kong and studied at an American school in Nigeria, before settling in London when he was 11, making for one well-travelled 21-year-old. His personal style is an indication of how he loves to mix it up, fusing vintage pieces with modern tailoring and rockabilly influences. Here we speak to the popstar in the making as he’s currently in the studio working on his debut album - produced with the likes of Mr. Waltmann (No Doubt) and Ant Whiting (MIA) - alongside an exclusive mix for us... WHAT'S… ...your secret talent?I can do my hair in exactly three and a half minutes. ...your worst vice?Spending too much time doing my hair. …the story behind your name?No story, it's my name! ... your favourite sound? The sound of traffic in Panama City. ...your worst fashion secret?I wear too much cologne. I've been through 2 bottles in the last month. ...your favourite website?kanyegate.tumblr.com aka immaletyoufinish.com ...your favourite label (not your own!)Def Jam... as soon as I watched "Krush Groove". ...the best thing about where you're from?Because I'm from a few different places and lived around the world, I suppose the best thing is being able to take inspiration from each part and it also fuels my desire to reach as many people as possible! ...at the top of your shit list?Stare downs with babies/toddlers. You know when you find your self locked in a gaze with them? They always seem to win. ...are you listening to now? Listening to my own stuff really, pretty narcissistic I know. But I've been trawling through old Neptunes instrumentals. I love breaking them down and trying to figure out how it was all made. How would you describe your work? I describe it as neo-pop, because it's a fusion of music I'm inspired by plus a love for the radio! From the bottom of funk, to the hip-hop techniques of The Neptunes, Kanye West, Swizz Beatz, combined with classic songwriting from the late nineties and early noughties.
