Demna, Gosha and RickCult designers take the place of musicians in Modern Man’s new t-shirt rangeShareLink copied ✔️August 15, 2016FashionNewsText Ted Stansfield With the exception of Karl Lagerfeld, fashion designers’ faces rarely make an appearance on clothes. Until now, that is. French brand Modern Man has unveiled a collection of mock band tees featuring four cult designers: Demna Gvasalia of Vetements and Balenciaga, Gosha Rubchinskiy, Rick Owens and Phoebe Philo of Céline. Retailing at $90, the t-shirts feature all the components of a band tee – a photo of the star, bold graphics and faded images. It’s a good idea – talk to any of Gosha Rubchinskiy Talk’s 12,000 members and you’ll find that the shrine they’re worshipping at isn’t dedicated to a rock star, but to the aforementioned Russian designer. The collection also demonstrates the ever-blurring line between fashion and tour merchandise. Recently Justin Bieber launched his very Vetements-y Purpose merch at a pop-up at VFiles and Kanye West sold his Pablo gear at a similar event staged during Paris Fashion Week. Other musicians – from Zayn Malik to Skepta – have similarly dropped sell-out merch this year and in June, Selfridges brought together some of London’s rising fashion designers and grime MCs for a series of tour merch-inspired capsule collections.
